1: The last roll - Or fighting over food. You both reached for the last of something at the same time, and now you're making dangerous eye contact
2: Wild West AU - Gunfights at high noon! Tense poker games in saloons! Daring train robberies! It's the Wild West!
3: Stuck together - Stuck in a broken elevator, crammed into the last two seats on the bus, caught in one of those finger traps. You literally can't get away from each other
4: Deep CR - When you've known each other for a while, and it's time to reveal your deepest secrets, startling confessions, and tragic pasts.
5: Sky Diving - You either just jumped out of a plane or are about to. Hope you both brought a parachute.
6: Resort - White sand beaches, blue waters, cool drinks, relaxation. Possibly Bond-esque intrigue? I don't know. It's late and I'm tired.
7: Doomed Last Stand - You're all going to die. Make them speak your name in fearful whispers for centuries.
8: Canon fusion AU - Both canons are crammed together into some kind of horrible abomination. Or just one of you is crammed into the other's canon.
9: Booze - Yer drunk. Go home. You do remember where home is, right?
10: Wild Card - Take your destiny into your own hands. Make your own prompt.

OR just throw down some vague preferences and I will come up with something for us. OR hit me up on skype for plotting purposes. There are no rules save those we make for ourselves.

[The sky here made her nervous. It wasn't right, going for days on end without seeing the sun. She had to actively try to not glow in response to the endless dim light.

Visitors who have traveled as far as you have are incredibly rare. In addition, this also benefits the common people. Honestly, Nohr could do with more reasons to celebrate -- we've had very little for a long time.

[Once the pre-match routine has concluded, the match begins. The two mercenaries appear to be evenly matched. They're experienced, but they're far from being experts of their craft.]

[Or so she thought. She watched them for a while with interest, but as their comparative lack of skill became obvious, her attention started to want to wander.]

These are clowns, right? The actual warriors will come out after one of them drops a bucket of white wash down the other's pants?

[Xander glances over at Leona, clearly surprised.]

No, this is the first round of the tournament. I know these two are far from the best, but it's only the first round. We're likely to see some competitors who stand no chance at winning until the herd is thinned down more.

I'm tempted to go down there myself and show them how to hold a sword properly.

[She cut herself off at that, though. Being polite to foreign dignitaries was not something that came naturally to her, and she had to tread carefully here.]

I'm sure they're not the best Nohr has to offer, though...

Far from it. These two pale in comparison to our top officers and royal retainers. Even our service staff are well-trained.

I should hope so, or you country would have been long since conquered.

And how does the royal family fit into this hierarchy of martial prowess?

To be frank, we had to be strong. Nohr had been at war with the neighboring kingdom of Hoshido for the better part of a decade. Hostilities only ended roughly a year ago.

[Xander steals a glance at his two sisters and his brother.]

You would be hard pressed to find greater warriors among the realms than us. Personally speaking, I made it a standard to lead my men from the front. I would not ask others to do so, but I find no better place for my own talents than fighting alongside my men in the thick of battle.

Any proper commander SHOULD lead from the front.

Tell me, does the royal family ever participate in these tournaments?

I'm afraid we haven't had any tournaments in a long time. The nation was too embroiled in war to participate in such demonstrations of skill with any kind of reasonable frequency.

But to answer your question, it is well within the rules to do so. However, it has not been done in my lifetime.
