Yep. They're...another long story, but vicious monsters that literally only exist to attack people is the relevant part here. They're pretty good at infiltrating, too, so even if, I dunno, a woman chooses to stay at home and care for a bunch of kids, she's gonna want to have something on hand that can fend them off, "military" or not.
