[8] [Mai's more of a long-distance fighter. Marksman skills aren't a bad thing but she doesn't exactly have the strength for a one on one close quarters fight even if she can throw a mean punch when she needs to.
So today she's practicing more with her sai and even trying to pick up a few swordplay skills. She notes at the beginning of the match with a slight, amused smirk:]

[9] [Recon sounded just like something Mai could enjoy. Drop in, get a bead on the Avatar and the island as a whole and then hop back out. She didn't mind going up against Avatars either but recon was just as useful and important.
She's perched on the lower branch of a tree. The feeling of despair is heaviest here and it only stands to reason that the Avatar binding the Gloom here must be somewhere close by. She runs the back of her hand over her forehead, a sigh passing her lips.]
